"The Gentleman's C+"
I am actually stealing this phrase from Lance. Correct me if I am wrong, but it refers to that grade which a professor (or any teacher) bestows upon his or her students as a courtesy.
Update:
Apparently it is "The Gentleman's C."

Its 'Gentleman's C' but you were close. Origins here http://ask.metafilter.com/59145/Origins-of-the-gentlemans-c
I believe, at least when going for the PhD, that the C turns into a B and they add a minus.
It's why douchebags at Harvard all graduate cum laude with 3.0's.
Well now I'm curious what the percentage of douchebags graduating Cum Laude at Harvard is.
Anyone?
If it's similar to other universities, it means the Gentlemen's C is not actually the cause of this douchebaggery, doesn't it?
Not that I really feel like defending Harvard douchebags, but... I think you get my point.
It's a little old, but here you go:
http://chronicle.com/free/2001/10/2001100804n.htm
Spring of 2001, 91% of the Harvard graduating class was "with honors". The article doesn't mention this, but 100% of them were douchebags.
That's funny stuff.
Imagine how hard they all worked and how meaningful it must have been to graduate with honors. The other 9% must have obtained the "Gentleman's C." Either that, or they didn't donate enough to the general fund.
I asked for a C, ended up with a B in that one for whatever thats worth.
